It is important the Raise a simle Lottery and CHSW Raffle are a fun way to support Children's Hospice South West, but that they never have a detrimental effect. CHSW is committed to ensuring the Lottery and Raffle are operated in a secure, fair and socially responsible way. For more information please read our Social responsibility in gambling Guide.

A residuary legacy is the gift of the remainder of your estate (or a percentage of the remainder) after all other gifts to friends and family have been distributed and all outgoings have been dealt with.

A residuary legacy is especially valuable to CHSW because the growing value of your assets protects it against inflation.

A pecuniary legacy is a fixed sum of money that tends to decrease in value over time because of inflation. For example, a legacy of £1,000 written into a Will in 1980 would now be worth less than £380. However, it is possible to index-link a pecuniary legacy, to ensure that the legacy maintains its intended value.

This gives us an opportunity to tell you more about our work and role, and to learn about your interests and skills.

As your sponsorship is paying towards the charity-funded skydive, you will need to be transparent with your donors. We are unable to claim Gift Aid on the first £400 raised towards your skydive. Therefore, to make things simple we advise the following:

• When setting up your online fundraising page please do not allow Gift Aid to be claimed

• Do not allow donors on your sponsorship form to tick the Gift Aid box

• Add this clear statement to your online giving page and sponsorship form: £200 of the sponsorship raised will be funding the Skydive and the remaining sponsorship will support care at Children’s Hospice South West.

The event will go ahead if it is raining. If the weather is deemed unsafe, a decision will be made 48 hours prior to the event and you will be notified by email. We will also update the Rainbow Run Cornwall 2024 Facebook event page.

It's really easy to pay in your fundraising money.  Visit the Cook Eat Give webpage for information on all the ways you can pay in your money.

Please make sure you donate via the Cook Eat Give donation form and not to the main donation page.  This helps us keep track of our campaign and how much money we've raised.  Please feel free to copy and paste this link to your guests in an email for ease: [insert link here to the CEG donation page].

We have eight specially adapted bedrooms at both Little Bridge House in Devon, and Charlton Farm in Bristol. At Little Harbour in Cornwall there are six, which are used for respite breaks.

At each hopsice we keep one of these bedrooms free for emergency or end of life care.

CHSW will have photographers taking photos on the day and filming the rainbow craziness. If you want to get shots right in the midst of the action we recommend covering cameras/phones with plastic wrap or bringing a disposable camera.

By signing up to Ride for Precious Lives you will be communicated with via email once a month and invited to bi-monthly Zoom meetings to support your training, fundraising and answer questions about the weekend.

You will also receive support via phone from your Area Fundraiser and Kiley, Event lead of Ride for Precious Lives.

You will also be offered to join a Private Facebook Group for those who are only taking part your event – this group is great to get support from your fellow Ride for Precious Lives riders.

Participants who register are not obliged to raise sponsorship, however this will not qualify you to receive a medal. Alternatively, you can make a donation of the suggested minimum £30 when you register online.

Online giving websites are an extremely effective way to easily boost your fundraising total. They work by allowing sponsors to log on to a fundraiser's unique page and sponsor them using a credit or debit card. The money from online fundraising pages (e.g. Just Giving / Virgin Money Giving) gets automatically sent through to CHSW and added to your total, so no need for paper forms!

You can wear whatever you like! Regular running shorts and vest, a tutu or even fancy dress outfits.

You'll be able to purchase a white Children’s Hospice South West t-shirt for £5 when you register on the day along with fancy dress and sunglasses available to buy from the merchandise stand.

The coloured foam may stain your clothing, so bring something you don’t mind getting stained so we do recommend to wear old clothes and trainers!

You'll also want to wear something that will help protect your eyes while running through the bubble stations and paint stations. Sunglasses will be available to purchase for just £2.

If you’re bringing kids with you, consider bringing some little swim goggles for them since the bubbles will probably be taller than they are!

There is no minimum or maximum limit.

Read the CHSW Raffle full terms and conditions. The purpose of which are to ensure you are informed about the terms and conditions of entering the CHSW Raffle, and to promote social responsibility in gambling

Taxation rules change frequently.  Your solicitor can provide Will tax-planning advice or arrange for the services of an accountant or tax adviser. A Will can allow you to take tax into account and maximise how much you leave to others. For example there is currently no inheritance tax payable on a gift left to charity in your will and if you leave 10% of your estate to charity, your IHT liability reduces from 40% to 36%.

This event is aimed at runners of all speeds and levels, so we don’t want to encourage this to be a walking event. The marathon route needs be completed by the cut off time of 7 hours, the half marathon cut off is 6 hours. If during the race, you foresee a problem and believe you will not too able to complete in time, you will need to tell the nearest marshal who will assist you.

No problem.  Please contact your event fundraiser.

We suggest all Rainbow Runners wear sunglasses to prevent paint drifting into your eyes. It is the adult's responsibility to ensure children in their group wear sunglasses during the event.

We will have sunglasses for sale on the day for £2.

Rainbow Run is not a race and therefore everyone gets a medal as they cross the finish line!

Below each comment there are up-vote and down-vote buttons which will add your vote to the tally. By default comments with the most up-votes will be at the top and comments with the most down-votes will be at the bottom. You do have the ability to change the method of sorting for comments.

The Raise a smile Lottery is a weekly draw so there are 52 draws per year, £52 divided by 12 months gives equal monthly payments of £4.34

Each of our hospices has a special room called ‘Starborn’ in which, after a child has died, they can be laid for up to seven days. Starborn is kept at a regulated temperature where the appropriate measures are taken to prepare the body for the funeral. This allows families to be in an environment where they can say goodbye to their child properly, surrounded by loved ones, with support from members of the care team who have looked after their much loved child during their stays.

The paint is 100% natural and water-soluble and will not cause any damage to the environment. However, we still put in a clean-up team to remove the paint on the ground after the event.

South West Splash is our brand-new fundraising event where you come up with a water-based challenge or fun activity.

You could swim every day for a month, or your child could swim a length of the pool. You could learn to surf until you drop, or kayak a marathon. Your child could learn to dive or simply handstand in the pool. Whatever the challenge, it doesn’t matter! There is nothing too small or too big, so get those swimming costumes, shorts or wet suits on and make a huge difference.

Absolutely!  Please email Kate and we can send these out to you. Just let us know how many you require.

Unfortunately it is inevitable that, with so many runners, some people will get injured in training for a race. What happens next depends on how you got your place and what race you are doing.

If you are using your 'own place' to run for CHSW (i.e. you obtained it directly from the organisers of that race) you simply need to let them know you can no longer take part. They will decide whether you can defer your place to the following year. We'd also appreciate it if you could let us know so we know how many runners to expect on the day.

If you have a guaranteed charity place, which you obtained by paying a registration fee with CHSW, then you must let us know as soon as possible if you are unable to take part in your event. We cannot automatically defer your place to next year's event, and all registration fees are non-refundable.

It's not a race! The route will approximately take 1hour to 1.5 hours to complete. There will be front walking marshals that will set the pace but they must not be passed by any participants for strict health and safety reasons.

Moonlight Memory Walk Cornwall

This  year we have the addition of memory points along the route to stop and make a memory whilst remembering your loved ones. We anticipate the event to be finished by 9.30pm.

Moonlight Memory Walk Clevedon

We will have musical entertainment along the route, so please do take your time and enjoy the walk whilst remembering happy memories of your loved ones. We anticipate the event to be finished by 9.00pm.

Moonlight Memory Walk Devon

We will have music and memory points for you to enjoy as you walk the route. We anticipate you will finish by 9.30pm at the latest.

Unfortunately, your place is non-transferable. If you cannot now take part please let us know.

We ask every Incredible Hiker to commit to raising the suggested minimum sponsorship of £1,000. Your registration fee covers the cost of your event support, hotel stays, food and Team Hike apparel.

Many people support CHSW for lots of different reasons.  If you would like to share your story/experiences we would love to hear from you.  If you have any photos or news, then you can always post them straight onto our Facebook page to help inspire other supporters.

We provide emergency care for many families, and this can be for a number of reasons. It may be that the child is very poorly and the family would like the support that the hospice provides, both physically and emotionally.

An emergency may not necessarily be with the sick child. A parent maybe ill, recovering from an operation, or attending a family funeral for example, and may need additional assistance with their child during this time.

All participants must be aged 18 or over, unless they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian (a minimum age of 14 then applies). A teacher or youth leader acting in loco parentis is not adequate. The parent or legal guardian must complete a Parental Consent Form prior to the event and will need to remain within sight and earshot of the minor – this will normally mean that they need to be with the minor whilst they prepare and accompany their child as is reasonably practicable during their participation.

We recommend an upper age limit of 70 years for participation, and for any individuals to consult their Doctor if they have an concerns about their health or ability.

Unfortunately, some of our emails can end up in your junk inbox- please check this first.
