Donate Refer

Yes you can! There are two ways to do this, either by donating all of the money raised to us, or by donating proceeds or a percentage. Either way, please contact your local community fundraising team.

Every participant in a Children’s Hospice South West Challenge Event, no matter what the event is, will receive:

  • Fundraising and training advice
  • Regular contact from the Challenge Events team
  • The opportunity to visit a Children’s Hospice South West hospice
  • Children’s Hospice South West vest or T-shirt.

For more information on the support available from Children’s Hospice South West, have a look at our fundraising page.

We are dedicated to making the most of short and precious lives, providing the best possible hospice care for life-limited children and their families from the South West.  We couldn't continue this work without you.  Read some inspiring stories to see the life-changing impact of our work.  Thank you again for your support.

Children's Hospice South West can only directly claim back at the basic rate but please complete and return the declaration.

As a higher rate taxpayer, if you declare your donations on your tax return, you can claim a rebate based on the difference between the higher rate and the basic rate when you fill in your self-assessment form.

If we have space on an alternative wave time, we'll be able to accommodate your request.

Please call the following numbers by the 1 December to make a change:

This is not a race and is more about having fun than setting a personal best. Take your time. But if you must, time your run with your own device. There are no prizes for finishing first at this run. You can walk, jog or run it!

We ask that you pay in your full fundraising amount within one month of your event.

Please let us know if you are not going to be able to pay in your money on time for any reason.

Injuries and illnesses happen - they're part of life. If you are unable to take part in your challenge, the most important thing for you to do is to let us know as soon as possible. Depending on when you pull out, we might be able to give your place to somebody else, so that Children’s Hospice South West does not lose out. We will also be able to advise you on who to alert to the fact that you will have to pull out - you may need to tell the challenge tour operator, and you may need to refer to the terms and conditions of your booking - especially for overseas adventures.

If you are unable to take part in your chosen challenge, and you have already raised sponsorship for your challenge, you will need to get in touch with everyone who has supported you to let them know that you are not actually doing the challenge they have sponsored you for. You should give them the right to request a refund on their donation. If you do not take part in your challenge, then we will not still ask you to pay in the minimum sponsorship requirement. Any registration fees you have paid are, however, non-refundable.

The Raise a smile Lottery uses lottery software licenced and regulated by the gambling commission. Players receive a unique randomly selected draw number(s) created by this software.

All lottery numbers paid in advance are entered into a computerised randomly selected weekly draw which normally takes place every Friday. Once a number is drawn it is removed from the draw therefore it is not possible for one number to win more than one prize. Prizes are allocated in the order of prize value.

No. Our Trustees govern the Charity on a voluntary basis.   Read more about our Board of Trustees.

Yes, there are three types:

A Residuary Legacy is a percentage or share of the balance of your estate once all other payments and gifts have been made. A lot people prefer to give a residuary gift because it keeps in line with inflation and does not lose value over time.

A Pecuniary Legacy is a fixed amount of money.

A Specific Legacy can include specific items like personal possessions, land or shares.

CHSW work in partnership with third party providers to ensure the ride route will be marked, with an experienced support crew who will provide first aid and mechanical assistance across the 3 days. We would expect that you would be able to do simple bike repairs/maintenance in the event of a puncture during the event. CHSW staff will also be on hand to offer emotional support, encouragement along the way and huge cheers as you reach each hospice.

Yes, the Raise a smile Lottery and CHSW Raffle is licensed and regulated in Great Britain by the Gambling Commission under account number 4991. View the full Terms and Conditions.

Our Santa on the Run event is open to all ages. Children aged 2 years and under are free to take part. Children under 16 years must be accompanied by a participating adult.

Families are advised on how and when they are able to book hospice stays. In addition to planned respite nights, emergency stays can be arranged. These are organised on an “as needed” basis.

The way families use their respite stays is determined to suit their personal circumstances, we aim to be as flexible as possible in responding to needs. Some families prefer long visits while others might choose a weekend every few months. We hope each family would feel free to discuss their individual needs with us.

If your company would like to get involved in other ways or you would like to donate a percentage of sales of a product towards our work, get in touch with Corporate Fundraising Team.

We have a team of fundraisers here at CHSW  who are on hand to offer you any ideas and advice you may need. Our first tip would be to set up an online fundraising page on Virgin Money Giving, and then to investigate whether your company or any local businesses will be able to support you.

You can find Children’s Hospice South West on virginmoneygiving.com. Check out our tips on setting up your online fundraising page.

Children's Hospice South West can only directly claim back at the basic rate but please complete and return the declaration.

Our overseas adventures are all run by tour operators on our behalf, as the tour operators have the experience, insurance and ATOL protection necessary to run these kinds of challenges. Therefore, registration fees should be sent directly to the appropriate tour operator when you complete your booking form.

Please note also, that the terms and conditions of your booking are with the tour operator rather than with Children’s Hospice South West - we will only stipulate fundraising terms and conditions, and do not have any control over insurance, travel arrangements or anything else to do with the trip itself. If you would like more information about this, then just get in touch.

If attending our Cornwall or Clevedon events, you need to remember to bring your walker number and “I am walking in memory of…” sign along with your decorated candle bag to hand in to our memory team.

If you are attending our Devon event, you will collect your candle bag and walker number on the night.

We also recommend you bring a torch and mobile phone.

Normally all volunteers must be over 18 with the exception of retail volunteers who must be 14 years or over.

No you don't.  We'll take your word for it. However, if you want to show your supporters you have completed your chosen distance, we recommend you download Strava and link this to your Just Giving page or social media.  This can also help increase your fundraising.

We recommend bringing a towel or change in clothing to protect the inside of your car as interior fabric can potentially stain light fabrics.

To be safe, bring a spare plastic bag to place clothes worn during the run inside.

CHSW cannot be held responsible for any damage or paint getting on participants vehicles, public transport or private property.

We deliver to mainland UK and BPFO only.

Absolutely. Getting your company involved in fundraising is a brilliant way to motivate your workforce as staff members across all levels can work towards a common positive goal. CHSW runs a very successful Charity of the Year (COTY) programme, as well as a Give as You Earn scheme

In the UK, inheritance tax is currently paid to the government at a rate of 40% if your estate is worth more than £325,000. However, the rate might be reduced to 36% if 10% or more of your estate is left to charity.

Most gifts left to Children's Hospice South West are exempt from inheritance tax because we are a charity. You can find out more by contacting HMRC or a solicitor.

You can create a free online fundraising page, personalise it with a photo and share it with friends and family by message, email or on social media. Santas on the Run North Somerset

There is limited parking available at Berties Nursery and at the Downs School who are kindly allowing us use of their car park, and we will also provide a free return shuttle service from Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, who are kindly allowing us use of their car park. We will be allocating your parking and will be in touch to discuss this with you, and will communicate where you will need to park in your fundraising pack. If you have any accessibility needs then please let us know of this as soon as possible so that we can allocate you to the closest car park.

If parking at Berties please allow yourself time to walk down the drive (allow fifteen minutes for this if there are younger children in your group).

Santas on the Run Eden Project

There is parking in the main car park so please leave enough time to walk down to The Gallery ahead of your wave time. Please car share where possible to reduce congestion and allow enough time to get from the car park to the event village in the venue.

CHSW operates a Sibling Service at each hospice, providing dedicated support and care to the brothers and sisters of life-limited children.

During family stays, the siblings can spend as much or as little time as needed with a devoted sibling team. Contact is maintained with the siblings during their time at the hospice, between visits with newsletters, emails and days out and after their brother or sister’s death, for as long as they need.

Yes you can!  Just take a look at our YouTube channel where you'll find lots of short films to help you highlight and promote our work and your fundraising.

After signing-in on the day, you will be  taken over as a group to go through an abseil demo - a chance for you to have a go on a grass slope first and have a few practices with an instructor on hand who provides coaching and helps deal with any questions that you might have. So there is no need to worry about previous experience. Even if you let go of the abseil rope during the abseil an instructor at the top will have you on a separate safety rope so you are completely safe throughout your challenge.

There will be around five staff on the day to help you with your abseil including an instructor half way down the abseil to encourage you down and to take action shot photos of you and another instructor at the bottom of the abseil as a friendly face to greet and help you sort out your kit.

You are very well looked after throughout the event and there is plenty of time to have practice abseiling and enjoy the wonderful grounds in which the event is staged.

If you are taking part with your school or swimming group,  please ask everyone to register online and include your school name within the group.

We ask all participants to aim to raise £50. The money raised from Moonlight Memory walk will help support more than 550 families currently being cared for at our 3 hospices.

You will need a licence from your local authority for an event that includes any of the following activites:

  • provision of food and drink
  • extended hours
  • collecting money or selling goods in a public place
  • sale of alcohol

For more help and advice please contact your local community fundraising team.

If you cannot raise the money in time, we will ask you to make up the costs yourself in order to take part in the event. If this is not possible, we will offer you the opportunity to join another challenge in the future, giving you longer to keep fundraising. If you do have to cancel from the event, we will refund your sponsorship to your donors directly, if requested by them.

Please note that cancellation charges do apply if cancelling within eight weeks of departure date, (although travel insurance may cover cancellation costs, depending on the circumstance).

There are plenty of ways you can get your fundraising started for minimal costs. Local companies may sponsor your event, donate goods or lend you their services for free. Take a look at our fundraising ideas page for simple ways to keep costs low.

If you pay a lower rate (10 per cent or 20 per cent), Children's Hospice South West can still claim back 25p for each £1 you donate, provided you pay enough tax to cover the claim in the tax year you make the gift(s).

If you're attending one of our events in person you will receive a medal at the finish line.

If you’re participating in the facebook Challenge and raise £50 or more, a medal will be sent to you in the post.

The event village will open at 9.30am. Your wave time will be allocated by the order participants register for the event on our website. For health and safety, we will not have more than 500 participants per wave. The first wave will be 11.00am, the second wave will be at 12.00 noon and the third wave at 1.00pm depending on demand. Your start time will be confirmed when we send your fundraising pack.

Please turn up one hour before your start time to register, be a part of the event village and enjoy the warm up.

You should have received an email confirmation when you registered. If you haven’t received this, please email our events team or contact your local community fundraiser as your email address might have been entered incorrectly. Please also check your junk mail, as sometimes automated emails may filter into this mail box.

Yes - we promote the events run by our preferred tour operators. Those tour operators will run several events a year, according to their own schedules. However, if you cannot make the dates they have on offer, we could look at an alternative tour operator for you so that you can still do your dream challenge - just get in touch with us and we will try our best to find a suitable event date for you.

Unfortunately there are no facilities and we cannot accept liability for anything you leave behind. Please bring only what you need and are able to carry for the night.

Our hospice teams have engaging and challenging activities for corporate teams. If you're interested in volunteering in a group as part of your company's corporate social responsibility programme, please contact your local corporate fundraiser or complete our enquiry form.

If you can't complete your run on these dates, you're welcome to do it either the week before or even the week after the 11 December. Let us know when you've completed it. For your photos to be included in the virtual competitions they must be added by the evening of Sunday 12 December.

You'll leave the Colour Craze looking very colourful, and we recommend a few showers to rinse off the paint. If you have stubborn colours in your hair washing up liquid works a treat to rid the colours. If your hair is very light, or colour treated, you may wish to wear a hat or headscarf to minimise the paint contact.

If you receive an error message that your credit or debit card has been declined - but you are sure your details are all correct - then please contact the bank that issued the card to you to find out why.

It is worth checking if any of the following apply, as these can prevent payments going through:

  • The billing address for your bank may differ to the one that you are entering on the billing address page.
  • Your card may not have enough credit available to cover the payment.
  • Your card may have a block on internet/phone orders, or on payments to charity.
  • Your card may have reached its daily transaction limit.
  • Your card may have been flagged for additional authorisation.
  • If your card was recently issued, it may not have been activated yet.

No it's not essential. We would love it if you could raise money for Children's Hospice South West but we also understand you may already have a charity you would like to support.

Find out how your fundraising can help CHSW here.

The purchaser's name and full address. If you buy tickets for someone else (over 18 years old), you can add their details during the process. It's useful to add a daytime phone number and email address too, as we try to contact winners by telephone first, followed by email.

Payroll Giving is taken straight from your gross (pre-tax) pay so there is no need for us to claim any tax back through Gift Aid, which saves us additional admin costs. If you are a 40% or 45% taxpayer, Payroll Giving is the only way we can automatically receive all your tax on a donation.

You can choose to leave us a collection or a specific object for us to sell and use the proceeds to support our work.

If you would like to leave a collection or a specific object to us, please do get in touch to let us know and we can talk about the options available.

You can bring your sponsorship on the day, pay it in via our online donation form or send a cheque with your sponsorship forms to our hospice:

Little Harbour, Porthpean Road, Porthpean, St Austell, PL26 6AZ

You'll find the links to the pre-recorded warm-up on our Be Incredible Facebook group. Please join the page to upload your photos and videos to enter our competitions too! But let us know if you don't have access to Facebook and we'll send you the links.

Gift Aid only applies to personal donations, so your company donation will not be eligible. For a charity to benefit from the tax on a company donation, the donation should be paid gross (without deducting Income Tax). The company can then claim tax relief when calculating its profits for Corporation Tax. For further information, please contact your Tax Office or accountants

As all teenagers wish to be independent, the hospice also holds teenage focused weekends, giving them the opportunity to come and stay without their families.

Three different weekends are arranged each year, plus one sensory teenage week. The weekends are often themed to suit varied interests including pamper days, cars and games.

It gives the teenagers the chance to socialise with others and time to talk about their experiences.

You can download a sponsor form from our fundraising tools page.

Canonteign Falls is a tough abseil and you will need to be fit and reasonably confident on your feet to be able to get to the top of the abseil and climb over the fence at the top. If you have any doubt in your ability to take part in the abseil please discuss this with your event organisers.

Being able to walk quickly up a flight of stairs, jump a foot off the ground and climb over obstacles such as fences unaided, would be a good example of mobility needed. If you are in any doubt about your fitness / mobility to participate in abseil event you have chosen, please consult the abseil organisers first and then your doctor if needed.

Just email Hollie and she will help you with any questions you have!

At the Clevedon and Cornwall events, you will receive a medal as you cross the finish line.

The CHSW logo is a registered trademark and can only be used within certain guidelines, so please contact us on marketing@chsw.org.uk before you use it on your printed materials. We have a specific version of the logo that we give to our supporters and we can supply it in whichever format you need.

Remember we can also provide posters with space to write your event details.

Please note that all images are usually copyrighted by their owners and you either require permission or must pay a fee to the image owner. Charity statement

Your printed materials/websites should include the statement:

‘All proceeds from the event will go to Children's Hospice South West’
The Children's Hospice South West registered charity number must also appear on all printed materials. This can be in small print and must appear as follows: ‘CHSW is registered charity no 1003314'.

Explain to potential supporters that you are taking part in a challenge (similar to a marathon or any other sponsored event) and that it will require dedication, commitment and training to raise money and to complete the trip.  The more you talk about the charity, the more they will realise how important your hard work is. You could always choose to pay towards the costs of the event yourself, so you can reassure your sponsors that 100% of their donation will benefit Children’s Hospice South West.

Once you have registered for an event, we'll send you a fundraising pack with lots of tips and advice on fundraising.  In the run up to your event we will also send you useful e-newsletters about what to expect, as well as training and fundraising advice.  If you need any further help you can always contact our events team who will be happy to help.
