Exactly ten years ago today CHSW’s Charlton Farm opened its doors to sick children and families. To mark the occasion a ceremony was held within its beautiful grounds.
Aided by 12 year old Ben Woolland and his mum Joanne, one of the first families to stay at the hospice back in April 2007, co-Founder and CEO Eddie Farwell planted a tree to commemorate the momentous milestone.
A decade of helping children with life-limiting conditions is being marked in 2017.
Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) was set up more than 25 years ago when Eddie and Jill Farwell came up with the idea to create a children’s hospice to help families in the South West.
The first hospice to be built was Little Bridge House in Devon in 1995, but it was soon oversubscribed.
In 2002 the charity launched The Babe Appeal to raise £11million to build Charlton Farm in Wraxall.
Cornwall Glass Redruth has recently donated £1,008 to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).
The donation was raised through an open day held in December for existing customers and the general public. Mince pies and mulled wine were enjoyed as well as a Christmas raffle which visitors could enter, as well as customers and colleagues from across all branches of the business.
Children’s Hospice South West's co-founder and chief executive, Eddie Farwell, will be officially opening the charity's latest shop at Tregenna Place in St Ives on Thursday, March 30, at 10.30am.
The new shop will have something for everyone with a range of goods on offer, including women’s, men’s and children’s clothing and accessories, as well as children’s toys and games and homewares.
RGB Building Supplies, which has stores in Holsworthy and Bude, have announced it has selected Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) as its chosen charity for 2017.
RGB had a phenomenal response to its ‘Christmas Present Appeal’ in aid of CHSW at the end of 2016, when more than 250 gifts were donated by RGB customers and staff. The builders merchants have now said it is looking forward to continuing this support for CHSW.
This year, RGB staff will be taking part in a number of CHSW fundraising activities and will also be holding regular events to boost the amount raised.
From 30 March, the Princesshay Centre in Exeter will be collecting clothing in support of the Children’s Hospice South West as part of the Spring Spree event.
The centre will then continue the clothing drop with CHSW throughout 2017.
A children’s hospice is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year and a Weston woman says she is ‘eternally grateful’ for the care she and her newborn son received.

But Charlton Farm specifically offers medical care 365 days a year as well as support for families.
At the moment it supports 204 life-limited children, and 152 bereaved families.
