Steam Engine restored in memory of 11 year old Oliver

A steam engine in Plymouth has been restored in memory of an 11 year old boy who died of a rare form of cancer, and will raise money for the hospice where he died.

Oliver, of Plymstock, passed away on 2 November 2019 at Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) Little Harbour in St Austell.

He had a rare form of blood cancer called Myelodysplastic Syndrome, which affected only 4 in 1 million children worldwide, and received treatment for it for 3 years.

Charity lottery win paves way to the Big Apple

A £1,000 lottery win, enables a mum and daughter to go on their dream trip to New York to celebrate her daughter’s thirtieth birthday.

Local businesswoman, Kim Lahiri, will be jetting off to the Big Apple in March with her daughter after winning £1,000 in the Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) weekly lottery draw.

Kim, a natural perfumer, skincare and plant extract specialist, from St Austell was totally surprised when she was informed of her big win.

King Harry Ferry raises over £2,400 for local children’s hospice

The staff and crew of Cornwall's iconic King Harry Ferry have demonstrated their community spirit once again by raising £2,420 for Children's Hospice South West (CHSW) Little Harbour.

CHSW was the ferry’s chosen charity for 2024. The donations were collected through passenger fares throughout the year, reflecting the ferry service's innovative approach to fundraising.

Penrice Academy Book Drop off to Little Harbour

Students from Penrice Academy in St Austell visited Little Harbour children’s hospice to drop off books for the families.

On Thursday 21 November the students gathered in the Penrice Library for a meaningful sponsored 2-hour read to support Children's Hospice South West (CHSW).

They raised £640, which they used to buy books to give to the babies, children and young people and their families who use Little Harbour.

On 22 January some of the top fundraisers came to the hospice in Porthpean to drop off the books and look around the hospice’s facilities, and even met some of the families.

Bop ‘til you Drop Valentine’s Day Party in Torquay supports CHSW

The Rotary Club of Tormohun in Torquay are organising a lively Valentine’s Day Party, Bop ‘til you Drop, at the Royal Torbay Yacht Club with special performances by Pete & Ian Duo - Sax & Soul and the Pure ABBA tribute group, with all money raised donated to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) as well as other Rotary charities.

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is calling for people to lace up their walking boots and take on the Incredible Hike in May 2025.

Incredible Hike takes place from Friday 16 May to Sunday 18 May 2025 and covers 60 miles along the South West Coast Path from Westward Ho! to the legendary Tintagel.

The registration fee covers the cost of the event support, hotel stays, food and hike apparel. All hikers will also receive an Incredible Hike t-shirt, buff, training plans, kit list, pit stops with snacks and drinks, all bag transfers, finishers’ medal, and bubbly.

Bristol Indian restaurant raises £10,000 for CHSW

An Indian restaurant in Bristol has raised an incredible £10,000 for Children’s Hospice South West.

Mowgli, which specialises in Indian Street Food, opened its doors in Corn Street in the city a year ago.

The restaurant chain was founded in 2014 by Nisha Katona, the daughter of Indian immigrant doctors.

Nisha gave up her 20-year career as a child protection barrister to bring to life her vision to build an eatery serving the kind of food Indians eat in their home and on their streets.

The first Mowgli opened in Bold Street in Liverpool in 2014.

Daredevil gran to take on world’s fastest zipwire to celebrate 90th birthday

A daredevil granny is to take on the fastest zip wire in the world to celebrate her 90th birthday.

Vivian and 7 friends and family – including her granddaughter Becky – are to take on the 1.5 kilometre Velocity Zip Wire in Snowdonia in May 2025 to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

The challenge will see Vivian, a great grandmother of 2, whizz through the air at speeds of up to 100 mph. The spritely OAP is hoping she and her team will raise £5,000.

Decorated tractors deliver gifts from Par Market to children’s hospice

A Vintage Tractor Rally raised £774.14 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

On Saturday 21 December, a parade of decorated tractors convoyed from Par Market in St Austell to the Little Harbour children’s hospice in nearby Porthpean.

Sacks of presents were hand delivered off the tractors by Santa to the children at Little Harbour.

Harry's Toy Chest camp out raises thousands for CHSW

Diehard toy fans started queueing outside a shop in Cornwall nearly 24 hours ahead of a huge Christmas giveaway. Harry's Toy Chest in Truro organised the festive giveaway to raise money for Children's Hospice South West at Little Harbour in Porthpean, St Austell.

The event, which took place on Saturday (December 14) saw toy enthusiasts queueing for hours to be in for a chance to win hundreds of pounds in gift vouchers and free Lego in raffle giveaways. It marked owner, Harry Stacey's fifth year on the high street, so he decided to organise a huge event to celebrate.
