Decorated tractors deliver gifts from Par Market to children’s hospice

14 January 2025 CHSW

A Vintage Tractor Rally raised £774.14 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

On Saturday 21 December, a parade of decorated tractors convoyed from Par Market in St Austell to the Little Harbour children’s hospice in nearby Porthpean.

Sacks of presents were hand delivered off the tractors by Santa to the children at Little Harbour.

Tractors on display at the market

Robin Rickard, Operations Manager at Par Market, said; “The idea for the rally began when a local vintage tractor owner asked to pop in for a cup of tea.

“A group of tractor enthusiasts from across Cornwall wanted to put on a vintage tractor display and convoy with Christmas lights on behalf of Little Harbour children's hospice. After several meetings in my office, we started to build momentum into what is now going to be an annual event.

“We weren't going to let the British weather put a stop to delivering Christmas presents to all the children and raising as much money as possible. The pinnacle of the day was seeing all the children outside of the hospice awaiting the tractor convoy and being handed a personal present donated by Par Market and delivered by Father Christmas was an absolute pleasure and made all the planning worthwhile.

Par Market are extremely pleased to have made a difference to these amazing children and their families.

Little Harbour provides free support to babies, children and young people with life limiting conditions and their families 365 days a year, including respite, palliative care, end of life care and bereavement support. The hospice also offers resilience stays, as well as support in families’ own homes.

Bethany Rudge, Area Fundraiser for CHSW, said; “From all of us at CHSW, we’d like to say a huge thank you to Par Market and the tractor owners for facilitating this special event, donating presents, and making an amazing donation.

Seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces was really something.
