Primary School chooses CHSW as its charity of the year

Finley is a pupil at the All Saints Marsh Primary School in Newton Abbot. Finley, pictured in his favourite Ginsters top, visits our Little Bridge House hospice in Devon with his brother Stanley and his school has decided as a result to choose Children's Hospice South West as its chosen charity for the 2017/2018 academic year.

To kickstart the fundraising year, the school hosted a 'Wear something green in support of CHSW' day and Laura Board, community fundraiser for the area visited  the school and said:

Toyota C-HR car raffle prize draw winning ticket

Congratulations to our Exmouth winner whose ticket was the winning one for our Toyota C-HR car raffle prize draw! 

Over 5000 tickets were sold and the raffle was drawn today in Princesshay Exeter by Hannah who uses our Little Harbour Hospice.


The winning ticket was number: 09923


Thank you to everyone who supported the raffle and Snows Toyota - we think that's the best Christmas present ever!

The 2017 Light up a Life Appeal starts with special light switch-on

The North Devon Gazette’s much-loved light Up a Life appeal was launched to an audience of thousands this year.

It was marked with the switch-on of a special illuminated star in Barnstaple Square during the town’s Christmas lights celebrations on Sunday.

Now in its 21st year, the appeal has become a Christmas tradition to enable people to remember a loved one and help raise money for North Devon Hospice and Children’s Hospice South West.

The charities host a series of services of remembrance across North Devon through December.

Conkering the competition for CHSW

It’s not often solicitors and chartered surveyors square up to each other for a fight but that’s what happened in the annual conker competition in Plymouth, organised by wealth management company Brewin Dolphin.

Emotions were running high and the atmosphere was tense as Plymouth-based surveyors Monk & Partners prepared to do battle with legal experts Gard & Co in the finals. Conker struck conker until, for the second year in succession, Monk & Partners again proved invincible.

Paul Raises Over £22,000 at Mongol Derby

59 year old dairy farmer Paul Richards from Hayle is rested and recuperated after becoming the first Cornishman to complete the Mongol Derby and raising over £22,000 for Children’s Hospice South West.

Paul completed the challenge in August which involved riding wild horses across 1,000km of Mongolian steppe. The ride took him 9 days and he experienced all types of weather and terrain along the way.
