Ross on Tower Bridge
Ross completed the London Marathon for CHSW in an incredible 3 hours and 4 minutes
Ross tells us about his London Marathon experience, and what the iconic day meant to him

How was your Marathon experience, and how do you feel knowing you’ve taken part in one of the best marathons in the world?

The London Marathon was an incredible experience! The energy and support from the crowd were amazing – there were people cheering us on throughout the entire route, which really kept me motivated, especially when you heard your name personally the whole way along! Running past some of the city’s iconic landmarks, like the Tower Bridge and the Houses of Parliament, was surreal. Even if at the time I didn’t seem to bothered! The camaraderie among the runners was also something special; everyone was encouraging each other and sharing in the highs and lows of the race. Crossing the finish line was such a triumphant moment. It was challenging, of course, but the sense of accomplishment made all the training and effort worth it. I would love to complete the 6 world marathons and this is a massive one to start with!

How did you find the support from CHSW in the lead up to the event, and on the day?

The support from CHSW has been absolutely amazing. The personal emails, the cards throughout the training process, it all really helped me stay motivated with the training and the fundraising for sure. I knew I was only an email away for advice and tips for whatever I needed and I’m grateful for that! On the day, to see them on tower bridge, it give me a massive push to keep on going! Especially being near on halfway I definitely needed that kick on!

Do you have any tips on how to reach the fundraising target, for anyone thinking it will be hard to get to £2k?

Social media was massive for me. Sharing on Facebook, Instagram etc to friends and family and just sure you’re loud and seen! I was so lucky with my work (RGB Building Supplies Porthleven) who allowed me to leave forms on the counter to promote my fundraising to customers and staff. They also allowed me to host breakfast mornings in work time in which we offered to customers who were coming in buying building materials and also our amazing suppliers who offered materials such as showers to auction off to the public.

Would you recommend running for your local children’s hospice to other potential runners?

Absolutely, I would highly recommend running the London Marathon for the children's hospice to anyone considering it.

Not only for the marathon experience itself, but running for such a meaningful cause adds an extra layer of motivation and fulfilment. The hospice does amazing work, and knowing that your efforts are directly supporting children and their families during tough times makes every mile worth it. The charity provides excellent support for their runners, from training tips to fundraising advice, and the sense of community among the charity team is wonderful. It's a fantastic way to challenge yourself physically while making a real difference in people's lives. If you're looking for a purpose-driven way to participate in one of the world's most iconic marathons, this is definitely the way to go.
