When raising sponsorship, David was unsure on where to start or how it was going to plan out. But, after contacting family, friends and his local supermarket for support he was able to kickstart his fundraising by bucket collecting and raising awareness for the local charity.
In total, David has raised an incredible £1038 for CHSW, which will support North Somerset’s Charlton Farm hospice by providing care and support to families who have children and young people with life-limiting conditions. The hospice provides services including specialist palliative care, family respite, emergency support, end of life care and a bereavement service.
David said: "I decided to enter the Great Bristol Run 10k to help with motivation and give myself a challenge to work towards. It was natural for me to try and raise sponsorship for this particular cause as I am aware of all the great work conducted at the hospice from my job as a CHSW lottery fundraiser."
"Being my first proper organised run, I was a little nervous at the start but it was a lot of fun and was great to be part of an event where so many charities are supported. I particularlly felt supported throughout my journey as anything I needed was provided by CHSW's local fundraiser."
"Overall, the event was well attended and the support of encouragement that you receive around the course was brilliant."
I would encourage anyone thinking of running for CHSW to take the plunge. It gives you a challenge, it is good fun and improves your diet, health and fitness. And of course raising important funds and awareness for the amazing work of CHSW.
Amanda Leonard, Area Fundraiser at CHSW said: "David's fundraising efforts do not go unnoticed and we are grateful of the awareness he has and continues to raise for CHSW."
His support will make a real difference to the children and young people with life-limiting conditions using our hospices.
