About the opportunity

Children’s Hospice South West are looking for a volunteer who is interested in giving their time to represent CHSW as part of our active events fundraising team. You will become the Event Support Volunteer to assist with the delivery of our CHSW fundraising events in our local community and help raise awareness of the essential work we do caring for local families. The role entails supporting the local Events Fundraiser at Little Bridge House, Devon to deliver excellent, fun and inspiring charity events. The role can be supporting the events in planning, logistics, promotion and delivery and working closely with the Events Fundraiser to ensure we maximise income. The role will work closely with other volunteers on occasions and be fully supported by the Events Fundraiser and the wider teams within the organisation. 

What we are looking for  

An individual who would like to volunteer for a local charity and support the organisation of all types of CHSW fundraising events. This is a great opportunity to gain hands on experience in a range of event related tasks and utilise your own experience to benefit a worthwhile cause, enabling the continued success of our fundraising events and ensure CHSW can maximise the potential income. Using your knowledge and skills to help develop and deliver a variety of exciting and inspiring fundraising events and helping us to raise awareness of the work of Children’s Hospice South West and inspire others to support the charity. 

Practical considerations  

Ideally the Events Support Volunteer will need to have access to their own transport and be prepared to travel to local areas to attend events. In the role you will need to commit to giving time to support the Event Fundraiser and be available to offer support when required at various times throughout the year.  

Ideal for  

An Individual who wants to gain practical hands on experience in event organisation and management. Working alongside our experience Events Fundraiser to deliver a variety of events designed to engage supporters and maximise income for the children and families in the South West. To utilise their expertise, skills, and knowledge to help support and develop the fundraising opportunities and raise money to enable the vital care provided at CHSW. Someone wishing to develop their own skills and knowledge building self-confidence and gain experience to benefit you in the future. At the same time wishing to support, raise funds and awareness for a great local cause. You should be an organized and practical person, keen to meet new people, have good communication skills, and a passion for supporting the work of Children’s Hospice South West. 

Tasks may include  

  • Gaining hands on experience in the develop and delivery of inspiring events 
  • Taking responsibility for key areas of the event delivery including event village set up, course set up, event administration and volunteer management  
  • Attending local community events to help with promotion 
  • Setting up and dismantling equipment  
  • Supporting the delivery of events marketing, promotion, and communications activity to recruit event participants and awareness of CHSW   
  • Being an ambassador for CHSW

Essential skills required  

  • Interest or experience in events and event management  
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with a range of people and the confidence to manage groups of volunteers  
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills with the ability to multitask  
  • Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to work on your own initiative  
  • Self-motivation and commitment with an ability to think logically as well as creatively.  
  • Proactive attitude, responding positively to new opportunities and challenges, with the confidence to make quick decisions  
  • Good written and verbal skills 
  • Passion for supporting Children’s Hospice South West 

Desirable skills required  

  • Volunteering or working for a charitable organisation 
  • Ability to use different IT applications and social media platforms 
  • Knowledge of ethical and legal charity fundraising 
  • Knowledge of event planning and health and safety regulations 
  • Understanding of GDPR 

When  

This role can start straight away and is required to give regular support to the Event Fundraiser throughout the year. Ideally giving 2 days per week, especially at event times. The hours can be flexible to suit you and your commitments as well as flexible to the needs of the organisation.
