Young musicians from Bideford College are holding a special concert next week to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Students aged 11-17 will be taking to the stage at the college’s Devon Hall on Thursday night (July 7), with 11 different acts set to showcase a range of musical talent at the school.

The concert will feature bands, choirs and solo acts covering a range of material, from original compositions to musical theatre numbers, as well as rock songs by the likes of Pixies, the Arctic Monkeys and Florence and the Machine.

It has been organised by three members of CHSW’s Young Ambassadors, a group of young people formed to raise awareness and funds for the charity, which runs the Little Bridge House children’s hospice in Fremington.

One of the organisers, Abi Hutchings, 17, said she hoped the concert would get everybody cheering, singing and dancing along.

We are extremely passionate and excited about this event and have worked incredibly hard to put it together.

“We’re really excited to show everybody the talent of the students at Bideford College, as well as how important music is to us all and how impactful it can be at an event like this to help such an amazing charity.”

Fellow young ambassador Evie Cloke added: “I cannot wait to bring music and such an important cause together. It’s going to be a truly amazing evening.”

The college’s head of music, Mrs Bidder, said students had been busy rehearsing and were looking forward to performing on Thursday night.

“I am very proud of the CHSW Young Ambassadors and the amount of effort that has gone into the event,” she said.

Doors open at the college’s main reception at 5.30pm and tickets are available on the door for a suggested minimum donation of £2. People can also make a donation on JustGiving and leave a comment for the number of tickets wanted: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/concertforchsw
