Ithan busking to raise funds for sisters hospice
11 year old Ithan Hancock from Tresillian has been busking with his cornet in Waitrose Truro each Saturday in December to raise funds for a charity that is a lifeline to his family.
Ithan has raised over £290 and counting for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) which cares for his sister Rosa and his whole family at its Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell.
Speaking about why he wanted to raise funds for Little Harbour Ithan said;
Little Harbour is an experience like no other and I wanted to raise some money to give something back.
Rosa is 13 and suffers with a rare, genetic, neurological disease, meaning that she is severely disabled and needs help with all aspects of daily life, this has a considerable impact on all of the decisions and activities they undertake as a family.
The family have been visiting Little Harbour since 2012 for respite stays allowing them the chance to regroup, relax and recharge their batteries. During their stays Rosa is looked after by the multi-disciplinary care team while Ithan also gets support from the dedicated sibling team and their parents have the chance to enjoy being parents rather than full-time carers.
Ithan’s mum Amy Cooper said; “Little Harbour offers us support that no-one else can. Their support enables us to step back a little from time to time.
They offer us the breather we need in order to be fit to step up again, recharged and resilient.
You can catch Ithan’s final busking session on Saturday 18th December between 1pm – 2pm at Waitrose Truro where you can listen to him play the cornet and make a donation to CHSW. Or to donate online visit JustGiving and search for ‘Ithan’s Christmas cornet’ or donate here
