Swimmers from the Farm take the plunge
On September 27, three members of the care team from Charlton Farm will be taking the plunge and swimming in open water in support of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).
Last year various members of CHSW’s Charlton Farm braved the elements and swam a distance of 2km or 4km around the beautiful Lake Wimbleball in Exmoor as part of the annual Exmoor Open Water Swim.
Rowena Dominy will be swimming with teammates Ian Walsh and Katie Owen, who are also based at the hospice in North Somerset. Rowena said: “Happily, the Exmoor Open Water Swim is going ahead and some of us loved it so much last year that we're doing it again! A smaller team, a lot less training due to lockdown, a more modest fundraising target – let’s face it, times are tough! But we want to raise money for our fabulous hospice, where we are all so proud and happy to work.”
CHSW’s Charlton Farm supports over 220 families who face the emotional and physical strain of caring for children who, sadly, are not expected to live into adulthood.

Rowena said: “This year, most charities have lost serious chunks of their fundraising streams as lockdown prevented organised events from taking place and CHSW is no exception. Meanwhile, our front line staff have completely changed the way they work - going on community visits, hosting online support and activity sessions, while continuing to provide end of life care in zoned houses, in order to carry on supporting children and families to make the most of precious lives.”
