6 year old Olive is riding 100 miles in April on her bike
A 6-year-old girl from Truro, Cornwall, is taking on 100 miles of cycling in April for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Olive had only just learnt to ride a bike, and had only been on 1 bike ride, before making the decision to take on this immense challenge, as she loved being in the saddle so much.

She was inspired by her brother George, who did a litter pick for CHSW during the COVID-19 pandemic as he had learnt about the charity at school.

Olive was also inspired by her mother Harriet’s work colleague, who was running 100 miles. Olive said, “I can do that on my bike!”

Olive and Harriet went through a list of charities, before choosing CHSW.

“I want to do the children’s one”, said Olive.

I want to help the poorly children.

Together, mum and daughter have been doing lots of reading and looking at CHSW’s social media pages to really gauge what the charity does.

Olive has 20 miles to go of her challenge, and so far on her JustGiving page she has raised an amazing £670.

“She is aiming to raise £1,000! We love going out on the Bissoe and the Camel Trails, and Olive is so happy that she is helping families”, said Harriet.

Every mile Olive completes is a step towards making a difference to the lives of the babies, children and young people that use CHSW’s Little Harbour hospice in St Austell.

Little Harbour provides free support to babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families 365 days a year, including hospice stays, palliative care, end of life care and bereavement support. The hospice also offers hospice days, as well as support in families’ own homes.
