Award winning musician Jamie Cullum shared a special message with guests at an event to celebrate the importance of music to children, young people and families with life-limiting conditions who are supported by Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

A team of colleagues from one of North Somerset’s largest employers is preparing to saddle up for a charity ride between Bristol and Cornwall – for the eleventh consecutive year.

Twelve members of staff at Edwards in Clevedon are taking part in the Children’s Hospice South West’s Ride for Precious Lives from 12-14 July.

The team from Edwards will join more than 90 cyclists as they bike 200 miles from Charlton Farm children’s hospice in Wraxall to Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell, calling in at Little Bridge House in Barnstaple on route.

A sell-out daytime disco is making a return to Weston-super-Mare.

The Loft Nightclub in the seaside town is once again hosting the ‘In Bed By Nine’ disco in aid of Children’s Hospice South West.

The summer ‘daylight disco’, on 20 July, runs from 2.00pm to 8.00pm, with a strict rule that only women and men over 30 years-old will be allowed through the doors.

The first ‘In Bed By Nine’ day time disco, held at The Loft in April and organised by Bleadon Womens' Institute, was a complete sell out, raising £5,500 for CHSW.

A retired, Swiss professor and his partner walked from Switzerland to Cornwall to raise awareness and funds for children’s hospices.

65 year old Rainer, his partner Stephanie, and two dogs Leo and Nettie, walked 1000 miles in 69 days. They began in Switzerland, journeyed through France and the UK to end up in Perranporth.

Rainer said: "For a long time, we had dreamed of a long-distance hike to Cornwall." At the start of the pandemic, Rainer was inspired, and spontaneously said to his dog Leo: "Come on, let’s walk to Perranporth in Cornwall."

A charity shop in Truro is calling out for donations of baby items, as they are running low.

Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) Little Steps shop on Tinners Court in Truro stocks items for babies and infants.

The shop is in need of cots, buggies and prams, and books and toys in clean, working order.

Sophie Lake, Assistant Manager of the shop, said: “We would really appreciate any donations anyone can provide right now, we are quite low in stock, so it would mean a lot to us if anybody could drop down an old pram they don’t use anymore, or even books and toys.”

1,500 people took part in Cornwall’s brightest fun run on Saturday as RAF St Mawgan once again hosted the Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) Rainbow Run, sponsored by Ann’s Cottage.

Bosses at a quaint Somerset pub are offering people a different way to celebrate the Summer Solstice – with a run across The Mendips.

The Queen Victoria Inn in Priddy is hosting its first Summer Solstice run on June 21 – the longest day of the year.

Runners will cover a file mile route, with all money raised going to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

The run, which kicks off at 7pm, begins and ends at the pub and will be followed by live music from Ryan Haynes and a barbecue.

The summer run follows the pub’s successful Santa Run which is held each December in support of the charity.
