Ziggy and Shaun's Banger Rally Challenge for CHSW
Ziggy and Shaun from Cornwall took part in the Banger Rally challenge to St Tropez in 2023.
They raised an incredible £2,286.85 for Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) Little Harbour Hospice, as well as winning the ‘best dressed’ award in the competition.
They had kitted out their van, called PAT1 to make it habitable, and were able to eat, sleep and travel in it throughout the journey.
They left Charlestown harbour on the 23 September 2023, and faced a number of obstacles on route to France.
After departing the ferry in France, they set off for Bruges to complete a series of challenges, then onto Holland.
However, departing their campsite, the van began making noises.
“We stopped for a coffee, and the van made a jump and a big noise”, said Ziggy.
After assessing the situation it appeared the gear box had blown up, but this didn’t put a stop to the pair completely the rally and finishing in St Tropez.
Ziggy continued: “We called the insurance and after a few hours, very sadly, the recovery lorry towed away PAT1. We continued the race in a hire care- which obviously was half the fun- but we finished it!
“It took a few weeks for PAT1 to be transported back to home, but finally at the end of November he was back and got repaired immediately.
Now we are planning to participate in a one-day rally in Cornwall on 11 May 2024 and also take Pat 1 to Split, Croatia on 21 September 2024.
Ziggy and Shaun (Postman Pat and Jess) came to Little Harbour for a cheque presentation with Bethany Rudge, an Area Fundraiser for CHSW.
We are so grateful here at Little Harbour as this money will make a huge difference to the lives of the children, young people and families that come here.
Little Harbour’s Learning Disability Nurse, Isabelle Oak, was also thrilled to meet the pair, as she is a huge fan of Postman Pat.
