Incredible accountants sponsor hiking challenge for children’s hospice
A leading firm of South West accountants is sponsoring a new fundraising challenge being held to raise thousands of pounds to support seriously ill local children. Thomas Westcott Chartered Accountants is supporting The Incredible Hike for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), which runs throughout May, National Walking Month.
Thomas Westcott staff members will be lacing up their walking boots to join hundreds of people expected to take part in the fundraising event. The independent accountancy practice, which has 17 offices across the South West, recently announced CHSW as its charity of the year 2021.
As part of the CHSW’s 30th anniversary celebrations in 2021, the charity has lined up 30 inspiring walking routes across Devon, Cornwall and Somerset for people to choose from – or they can simply pick one of their own, whether it’s a scenic stroll or an epic hike.
Ian Huggett, Partner and Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at Thomas Westcott, said: “Children’s Hospice South West has been chosen by Thomas Westcott staff as our charity of the year 2021. We are delighted to be sponsoring The Incredible Hike, which is one of the biggest events in their fundraising calendar.
“As well as being a fantastic fundraising event, The Incredible Hike also fits with our focus on staff wellbeing. We have been supporting our team members to stay active while working from home during the pandemic and we will be encouraging them to take part in The Incredible Hike.
Walking is not only good exercise but important for mental health too.
Our staff are based across the South West, where we are fortunate to have a wealth of green space on our doorsteps.
Taking part in The Incredible Hike is a great way for everyone to enjoy our wonderful surroundings, stay active and support Children’s Hospice South West.”
All of the money raised will ensure local children with life-limiting conditions and their families continue to receive the vital hospice care they need.
CHSW corporate fundraiser Amanda Gallagher said: “We are incredibly grateful the team at Thomas Westcott has chosen to rally for CHSW care teams in such unprecedented times.
“The lockdowns have brought new and often terrifying challenges to families caring for children with life-limiting conditions, many of whom have seen care packages fall away and their wider support networks disappear because of the pandemic.
“Our care teams have had to adapt to ensure Covid-safe support wherever and whenever families need it most, including in our three children’s hospices in Devon, Somerset and Cornwall, and for the first time ever, in families’ own homes. They have been amazing, working in such different ways and in difficult circumstances, often wearing uncomfortable PPE for long hours but can only do that thanks to such wonderful support from local people and businesses.”
It’s free to register to take part in The Incredible Hike and everyone who raises more than £30 in sponsorship will receive a very special commemorative CHSW 30th anniversary medal.
Participants are asked to ensure they stay safe by following Government guidelines and announcements from Public Health England.
