Teams sought to tee up for charity golf day
Teams are being sought to dust off their irons and tee up for a charity golf day in Somerset.
The Rotary Club of Brue Valley is holding its annual golf day at Wheathill Golf Club, Lydford-on- Fosse, near Castle Cary, on Thursday 12 September. The event, which will see up to 24 teams make their way around the 18 hole course, will raise money for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).
Players will be given a breakfast bap ahead of taking to the fairways, with competitions at many holes including for the longest drive and the number nearest the pin. A prize giving will be held - along with a 2 course buffet – in the afternoon, with a dozen prizes on offer including awards for the top 3 teams.
This is the second year that the Rotary Club of Brue Valley, which covers the market towns of Bruton, Castle Cary and Wincanton, has organised the event. Last year’s golf day raised £3,700 for the charity.
Golf day co-ordinator and rotary club member Andrew Moore said: "Last year’s event was a huge success and everyone had a fun day."
We were keen to get back out on the fairways again this year and raise even more money for the children’s hospice.
The event is being sponsored by South West Building Solutions Ltd. The course sponsor is CRS Building Supplies. Each individual hole is also sponsored by different businesses. The Rotary Club of Brue Valley has been a long standing supporter of CHSW and also co-organises the Classics and Supercars event at Sherbourne Castle.
"Raising money for Children’s Hospice South West which does such incredible work is an easy decision for us," said Andrew. "We are all inspired and amazed by the work which goes on there."
CHSW Area Fundraiser Kylie Gallagher said: "CHSW are delighted to have the continued support of the Rotary with this much-loved event, which was so enjoyed last year by all those who took part. We are looking forward to joining them again for the day to support and encourage all golfing enthusiasts to put a team in, all supporting local children’s hospice, Charlton Farm and ensuring we can continue to help families going through the most difficult of times, make memories which they will treasure for a lifetime."
Tickets cost £47 per player or £37 for Wheathill Golf Club members and are available at www.bruevalleyrotary.org/golfday.
