Ruth's big CHSW Lottery win

12 March 2025 CHSW

Ruth Bray from Lincoln won Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) lottery rollover of £5,200 in November.

She told us about her win and what she plans to do with it.

“I was actually in the car travelling to a hospital appointment when I got the call. I didn’t recognise the number, and it was quite the surprise when I was told I had won the money”, said Ruth.

“I am a retired nurse at 50 years, so I decided I would give some of the money to my son and daughter who needed some help with their mortgages.

I’m also going to use some of it for me and my husband to go on holiday. He has just come out of hospital having had heart problems, so we try and enjoy, and look forward to, every moment in our lives.

“We want to go back to the Dominican Republic, where my daughter was married. It is a beautiful place, but I wish it was much closer! It’ll be something we can do together and make memories.

"I support CHSW in other ways, I pay an amount every year, and I just like supporting them. We don’t live in the South West anymore, but I still continue to support the charity, and it was a charity my mother supported too.

I tend not to give Christmas cards out, and just donate to CHSW instead. I think it is very important.
