Quirky Somerset pub hosts summer solstice run

14 June 2024 CHSW

Bosses at a quaint Somerset pub are offering people a different way to celebrate the Summer Solstice – with a run across The Mendips.

The Queen Victoria Inn in Priddy is hosting its first Summer Solstice run on June 21 – the longest day of the year.

Runners will cover a file mile route, with all money raised going to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

The run, which kicks off at 7pm, begins and ends at the pub and will be followed by live music from Ryan Haynes and a barbecue.

The summer run follows the pub’s successful Santa Run which is held each December in support of the charity.

The summer run is the first the pub, run by Debbie and Mark Walton, has organised.

The pub, which dates back to the 1800s, is also known for its amazing Christmas lights display including a 7ft bottle tree made from more than 4,000 bottles.

Entry for the run is £10.

Anyone wanting to collect sponsorship in addition to the registration fee should contact CHSW area fundraiser Kylie Gallagher for a fundraising pack and running vest on 01275 866600 or email kylie.gallagher@chsw.org.uk.
