Fire crews in 'Everest' ladder climb to raise funds for CHSW
Firefighters climbed the equivalent height of Mount Everest – to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West.
Crew members from Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) climbed a fire engine ladder an impressive 1,301 times – equivalent to the distance of the world’s highest mountain – and raised £2564.
The charity event, which took place at The Mall, Cribbs Causeway on Saturday, 26 October, saw firefighters from Clevedon, Portishead, Weston-super-Mare, Avonmouth, Kingswood, Patchway, Bath, Yatton, Paulton, Temple, and Yate take part in order to raise money for the Children’s Hospice South West and the Fire Fighters Charity.
Chief Fire Officer Simon Shilton, Assistant CFO Luke Gazzard and Temporary ACFO Paula Lyons, plus several senior officers, also took part in the challenging climb.
Chrissie Becker, Firefighter at Clevedon Fire Station, who organised the charity event, said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who got involved with this charity event.
“I was so impressed with all the effort made by firefighters across the service – all their hard work making those climbs again and again meant we raised an incredible amount for 2 charities doing such fantastic work.
“Most importantly, we couldn’t have done it without the support of our community. Thanks to everyone who cheered us on and donated so generously.”
