CHSW goes Green

05 April 2018 chsw Events
CHSW is pleased to announce it has taken some practical steps to ensure its mass participation events are more environmentally friendly.

This year CHSW is holding its much-loved Rainbow Run in three locations: Bristol, Exeter and Newquay. It’s a 5k family-friendly fun run, which raises tens of thousands of pounds for the charity.

This year, to help reduce the amount of single use plastic at its Rainbow Runs, CHSW will be replacing bottled water with branded reusable water bottles which will be available to purchase and fill up on the day in the event village. Alternatively, participants will be encouraged to bring their own bottles, which they will be able to refill.

Hollie Thorogood, Events Fundraiser at CHSW said, ‘We are very lucky to be working with local company, Thirsty Work, who is kindly supporting our event and providing us with all of the water for the day. Water will be provided free of charge for you to fill your bottles or, if you want to support our Green initiative even further, you can bring along your own bottle already full of water.’

Any bottles left over after the event will be taken away by Thirsty Work and sorted ready to be sent to ‘Simply Cups’, a company who recycle these products.

Hollie continued, ‘Adopting green practices shouldn’t just be limited to large companies with big budgets.'

We are proud to have made these first steps to improve our green credentials and anticipate this initiative will dramatically reduce the amount of plastic waste at our events.

In its efforts to be more ecologically conscious, CHSW is also looking to work with sustainable food vendors and hopes that people taking part in the Rainbow Run will support these steps towards making its events more environmentally friendly.
