CHSW appeal for bucket collectors at Shepton Mallet Carnival
Fundraisers at a children’s hospice are calling for volunteers to ‘join the fun’ and help them collect money at this year’s Shepton Mallet Carnival.
The carnival, which takes place on November 13, is one of the seven colourful parades organised by the Somerset County Guy Fawkes Carnival Association (SCGFCA) across the county.
The circuit starts with Bridgwater on the first Saturday in November each year, followed by Burnham-on-Sea on the following Monday, Weston-super-Mare on the Friday, North Petherton on the second Saturday in November, Shepton Mallet on the following Wednesday, Wells on the Friday concluding with Glastonbury on the third Saturday in November.
The carnival has the reputation for being one of the largest illuminated processions in Europe and every year attracts tens of thousands of people to Somerset from all over the country and the world.
The carnivals raise a huge amount of money for charities and good causes and also make a big contribution to the local economy.
This year a team from Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) will once again be joining the parade and is looking for volunteers to join them as collectors.
CHSW Area Fundraiser Kylie Gallagher said: “We have taken part in the Shepton Mallet Carnival for the last two years and it is a really great evening for all involved.
This year we are looking for volunteers to help us shake the buckets along the route and help us collect as much money as possible
“It’s a fun way to spend a few hours and be part of the carnival while raising money for a fabulous cause which supports families from right across Somerset.”
This year the CHSW team will be dressed in Santa suits to promote the charity’s Santas on The Run event being held at Charlton Farm on December 8.
The event sees hundreds of people in fancy dress take part in a 2k fun run around the stunning hospice grounds in Wraxall.
