Children’s hospice charity benefits from community fund
A charity providing hospice care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families has benefitted from a local housebuilder’s donation.
Children’s Hospice South West has been chosen as one of the recipients of the David Wilson Homes Community Fund, which was launched earlier this year.
The David Wilson Homes Community Fund donates £1,000 each month to a charity or organisation which improves the quality of life for those living in the region. The new initiative is part of the company’s pledge to strengthen its ties with the areas in which it is building new homes.
Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) provides care for children with life limiting conditions and their families at Charlton Farm in North Somerset, as well as further afield in Devon and Cornwall. The charity offers respite and short breaks, emergency care, palliative and end of life care, as well as support through bereavement and beyond.
Nestled in beautiful surroundings in North Somerset, the Charlton Farm hospice is a restored farmhouse, which retains a homely feel whilst providing comfortable, spacious rooms for children and their families. It supports families from Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath and the surrounding areas.
Karen Mathie, Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser, said they are extremely grateful for the donation they are receiving from David Wilson Homes. She said: “This fund donation will go towards the continuing support that we provide for local children and their families.
“By providing a much-needed break, our families build a treasure-chest of precious memories to carry into the future, a future which will sadly be without their much-loved child or children. And our support and contact will continue for as long as they need us. We are very grateful for David Wilson Homes’ cash boost."
Louise Ware, sales director at David Wilson Homes, said: “Children’s Hospice South West is a wonderful charity that helps children and families in the most desperate of times and we’re thrilled to be able to support such a worthwhile cause.”
With facilities including a popular messy playroom, soft play area, sensory garden and hydrotherapy pool, Children’s Hospice South West, Charlton Farm offers an environment where families can spend time together, doing things as a family that they may not be able to at home.
The David Wilson Homes Community Fund has already helped several local charities this year and will continue to support worthy causes throughout the South West.
