Ben's barnet brings in £2838 for charity
Falmouth man Ben Eddy has raised £2838 for two charities after his Mullet-ON challenge; a year of growing his hair into a mullet and bringing smiles to many around him.
After cutting his hair short in December 2020 Ben set himself the challenge to grow his hair into a mullet in the hope that it would bring a smile to people’s faces as well as raise funds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) and My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
Ben initially set himself a fundraising target of £250, telling his supporters that if this was reached he would keep his new hairstyle until he
In the end Ben’s challenge lasted over 12 months and in that time the mullet was styled in various ways including being dyed, plaited, permed and even being shaved into a reverse mohican in the final days of his challenge, all bringing in more donations for his chosen charities.
As Ben neared the end of 2021 he roped his friends and family into getting involved with various videos to boost any final donations.
Reflecting on his year of fundraising Ben said;
I had a blast this past year and somehow, with no sporting prowess or physical ability I have managed to raise over £2.8k for two amazing charities.
"Raising money has been incredibly rewarding and humbling and I’ve enjoyed doing it for my friends and family’s amusement.”
CHSW supports children with life limiting conditions through it’s three children’s hospices in the south west while My Name’5 Doddie Foundation was set up by ex-rugby player Doddie Weir to fund research into the causes of, and cures for, Motor Neurone Disease as well as grants for those living with it.
Amanda Masters, Area Fundraiser for CHSW said; “Ben’s fundraising and hair antics brought a lot of smiles and joy to people throughout 2021 and on behalf of the children and families we support I would like to thank Ben for his dedication, his passion and his fantastic sense of humour that were all reflected in the fantastic total he managed to raise for CHSW and My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.”
