1500 Run the Bristol Rainbow!
For the first time, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) brought its ever-popular sponsored run – the Rainbow Run – to Bristol’s beautiful Blaise Castle Estate. 1500 people took part in the 5k fun run, which is expected to raise over £75,000 for the charity.
Events Fundraiser, Hollie Thorogood, said ‘Blaise Castle Estate was a brilliant new venue and it was fantastic to see the event is still going strong in its sixth year; we hope to see everyone at the 7th! We hope the event raises in the excess of £75,000, which could pay for 24-hour nurse care for one year at one of our 3 hospices.’
This year CHSW are running a competition to encourage participants to raise as much sponsorship as possible. Hollie said, ‘The sponsorship raised by participants will be like a ‘Pot of Gold’ to our families and as a thank you for their hard work, we’ll be giving prizes for individuals who raise over £50 sponsorship, and teams who raise over £200 sponsorship. Participants’ registration fees only cover the cost of their partaking in the Rainbow Run. The sponsorship raised will help to support the vital work of CHSW.’
Many families supported by CHSW took part in the event and could be seen holding star helium balloons in the event village and along the route. Some were running in memory of children who had died at CHSW’s local hospice, Charlton Farm in North Somerset.
Runners were treated to the brilliant beats of Batala Bristol at the start line, as well as encouragement from Heart Breakfast Presenters Ed & Troy.
This year’s event was kindly sponsored by FiveWays Financial Planning, PB Design, Osborne Clarke and Unum.
