Receptionist Nikky Mungeam is to swap headphones for trainers when she takes on the Bristol 10k to raise money for the charity she works for.

Nikky, who works in the office at Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) Charlton Farm in Wraxall, has always had an interest in running, completing the Bristol 10k on two previous occasions.

Now Nikky, from Sea Mills, will make it a hat trick of 10k’s when she takes to the streets of Bristol for the third time on 19 May.

Nikky, 57, used to run to keep fit but stopped several years ago.

“I haven’t run for a few years and decided I wanted to get back into it earlier this year,” said Nikky.

“I’ve completed the 10k twice before. The first time was a personal challenge and I got round in 58 minutes and the second I was part of a team raising money for charity.

“This time I’ll just be glad to make it to the finish line and still be breathing,” she joked.

Nikky has been busy getting in training for the event, taking part in a Park Run each Saturday and training with a local running group every Tuesday.

She also nips out for a walk in the Wraxall countryside during her lunchbreaks and regularly trains alongside fitness guru Joe Wicks, using his YouTube sessions.

Nikky was inspired to raise money for CHSW after seeing close up the impact of the charity which she started working for eight months ago.

Nikky said: “CHSW is an amazing charity set up to care for children, and their families, as they face life-limiting conditions.

Each day, I see how the hospice makes a difference to the children, their parents, siblings and other family members and friends, as support is given with such care.

“It is a privilege to help raise money for this amazing charity which, in turn, is also giving back to me.

“Getting my running shoes on again is definitely helping my own wellbeing having lost my mum two years ago.”

Nikky has set herself a target of raising £1,000 for CHSW.

CHSW event fundraiser Hollie Thorogood said: "

“We’re delighted to have Nikky take on the 10k and represent CHSW. She has raised a fantastic amount of money and we can’t wait to cheer her on and see all her hard work with training pay off.”
